From the question, “What could I cook today?”, the Spanish application and social network, Hatcook, came into being. The app looks to adapt to the needs as well as the interests of all those who are looking to create, explore and share their desire for creative international cuisine.
The Hatcook platform will help you to learn how to make recipes, all homemade, so that you will be able to surprise everyone you know with these delicious dishes. You can share the recipes, photographs and videos of what you have made and text others about the experience as well. You can even follow some of your favorite chefs too!
This app, which is free, often competes with other applications that are like it, such as the Japanese Cookpad, Swedish MyTaste, and French Petitchef. The audience for Hatcook, however, is younger and the experience is a much more efficient and simple one.
The application came into being when the creator had finished a round of computer studies in Valladolid. The CEO has this to say: “I love cooking and I created a recipe search engine for ingredients. It was so successful that Google highlighted it.”
With a format so simple that filtering is facilitated and you can do immediate dish searches, there are currently in excess of 9,000 recipes on the app. You can adapt the search with such features as guest numbers, ingredients and more. As an example, if you ask for a recipe that contains cheese and asparagus, you will get results of all the recipes that have both ingredients in it.
You can also search recipes by difficulty level (difficult, intermediate or easy), time, region (Mexican, Italian, Chinese, etc.) and even the season (spring, summer, fall or winter).
The iOS app version was developed in 2011 after taking the laptop into the kitchen and realizing it would be a lot less cumbersome if the app were available on mobile devices. After the initial launch of the iOS version, and after it was downloaded repeatedly in more than fifteen countries, the Android version was released and conquered as well.
The CEO is currently working on a monetization process on social networks with the help of sponsorship from various food brands. The overall goal of this monetization is to reach a point at which they will be able to sponsor recipes, add video posts about specific products and even allow users to be able to order specific ingredients for each dish, right from the application itself.
