Hatcook Social Network Wins First Prize

Spanish ingenuity has recently been recognized at the #StartMeApp awards, by Huawei, in collaboration with EL PAIS Retina. The Hatcook app is actually a social network with a focus on food lovers, and it won first prize in these awards. The awards ceremony also announced finalists, Byhours, an app designed for making hotel reservations for hours, as well as Miwuki pet shelter, which is a platform for pet adoptions.

Retina Forum’s Content Director, Jaime Garcia Cantero, helped to open the event at which Huawei’s Marketing Director, Ramiro Larragan, was also a participant. Also in attendance were the European vice president, Jaime Gonzalo, Huawei’s Director of Consumer Business, Huawei Spain, Pablo Wang, and Retina’s Editor, Guillermo de Vega.

A group of experts formed the jury that stressed the fact that all of the applications represent the overall Artificial Intelligence capabilities aimed at improving not only the present, but the future as well. Highlights were mentioned concerning their “differential contribution, global vision and market opportunity”.

Sergio Ortega and Pablo Ray are responsible for creating Hatcook. Their winnings were three thousand euros as well as being registered with the Developers Program of Huawei Developers Alliance. The three finalists all received a new Huawei Mate 10. They will also make an appearance, for two weeks, on the Huawei AppStore in both Europe and Spain.

Garcia Cantero said that the moment the Spanish entrepreneurs experienced was “spectacular, and added, “From an economic point of view, the market for apps reached fifty one billion dollars in 2016 and could double until 2020”.

Hatcook is not just another library for recipes, it is a social network specifically designed for enthusiasts of cooking. Users can not only send their own posts, but can also send pictures, follow other cooks, save others favorites and even search by ingredient or food style. The app will also give a difficulty level and range with each recipe and recalculate recipes and portions specifically for the number of diners who will be eating. Currently the app contains a recipe book that gives you about 8,000 options including the option for “reading mode”. This allows you to listen to the recipe without needing to look at the screen.

The jury made a special note of the high degree at which this application was developed as well as the possibilities it has to offer. One of the main options mentioned was the ability to find recipes based on specific foods.
